#UKRAS22: The 5th UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems Conference

Call for Papers

Deadline Extension: 24th June 2022

On behalf of the Organising and Advisory Committee we take great pleasure in welcoming students, researchers and experts in robotics to Aberystwyth University for the 5th UK-RAS Conference for PhD Students & Early-Career Researchers (#UKRAS22) on the 26th August 2022.

This exciting event is specifically designed for PhD students and early-career robotics and autonomous systems researchers of the UK-RAS Network and will foster research progress and offer opportunities for networking.

This year’s theme focuses on Robotics for Unconstrained Environments. We want to examine robotics and autonomous systems for use outside the lab, whether this is in a natural home environment or in the great outdoors.  This considers many aspects from assisted living, technology supporting rehabilitation, autonomous online learning, mapping and navigation, digital twinning and simulation.  Moreover, we seek understanding of how different robotic and autonomous systems make themselves at home by being tailored to suit their respective working environments, such as homes, fields, oceans, or disaster scenes.

The aim of UK-RAS22 is to promote quality research, networking, and community building for PhD students and practitioners at the frontier of science and technology in intelligent robots and systems, by discussing the latest advancements in this fast growing and exciting field.

The call for papers is now open and we are looking for submissions in areas including (but not limited to):

  • Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
  • Assistive Technologies and Rehabilitation
  • Smart-Home and Robotics
  • Field and Applied Robotics
  • Multi-robot systems
  • Novel and Enabling Technologies

The extended deadline for submission is 17:00 GMT 24th June 2022.

Awards will be given to the best papers and the authors will be invited to submit an extended version of their paper to TAROS Conference, which is hosted by the UK Atomic Energy Authority. All accepted papers will be published on the UK-RAS network website, receive a digital object identifier (DOI), and will be indexed on Google Scholar.

General Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to address the following key points in their paper:

  • Purpose
  • Originality and value
  • Design, methodology and approach
  • Results and findings (if paper is empirical)
  • Research limitations and implications

In addition, you may provide up to six keywords that encapsulate the principal topics covered and help categorise your paper.

Paper Submission

  • Length: Maximum of 2 pages
  • Paper size: A4 (210 mm x 297 mm)
  • Format: Word or LaTeX

Please download the IEEE conference LaTeX or Word template to use for your submissions. Submissions must adhere exactly as stated otherwise they will not be accepted.

Papers must be submitted before 17:00 GMT 24th June 2022.

Submit your paper here

Late submissions and any not adhering to the specified guidelines will not be accepted.

Review

All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers and will receive a meta review for quality assurance. Papers will be evaluated based on research originality, excellence, significance and relevance.

Conference social activities

Alongside the keynote and speaker talks, we’ll be providing a tour of the robotics facilities at Aberystwyth and an exhibition including various suppliers of robotic systems.  Following the conference there will also be an opportunity to enjoy some of the sights and sounds of Aberystwyth such as a ride on the Rheidol steam train to Devil’s Bridge or a trip up Constitution hill on the longest electric cliff railway in Britain to see the biggest camera obscura in the world. Alternatively you can watch the Red Kites being fed at Nant yr Arian, take a boat ride from New Quay to see the dolphins, or simply enjoy a stroll along the beach and watch the sunset over Cardigan Bay.
